Gita is said to give answers to all our problems. Also it is said that, though we may not understand it in the first few readings, it unknowingly cleanses our mind and thoughts.
***A short story to understand importance of Gita***
Why we read the Bhagavat Geeta, even if we can't understand it?
An old farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson. Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Bhagavat Geeta.
His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.
...
One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! I try to read the Bhagawat Geeta just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand, I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bhagawat Geeta do?"
The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and
replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water."
The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house.
The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.
This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before here turned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.
The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.
At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.
Out of breath, he said, "SEE.... it is useless!"
"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket."
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.
"Son, that's what happens when you read the Bhagavat Geeta. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of GOD in our lives."

######Chapter 1 in short######
After gathering on the holy field of Kurukshetra, Duryodhan is intimidated by the Pandava army. He seaw Drishtadyumna as the commander in chief and approached his teacher Dronacharya, and talks about the might warriors on Pandava's side. (Though Drishtadyumna was bornn to kill Drona, still Drnoa took him as his disciple). Duryodhana seemed to tell Drona that it was a mistake of his that he is standing that way in front of them.
He addresses Drona as Dwijottama (best amongst the twice-born, or Brahmins). His denigrating and vailed reminder for Dronacharya was that, if he did not display his valor in this battle, he would be considered a lowly Brahmin, who was only interested in the fine food and lavish lifestyle at the king’s palace.
Then to cover up his vicious words and boost his teacher’s and his own morale; Duryodhana started naming all the great generals present on the Kaurava side, describing their valor and military expertise.
Duryodhan feels that they are safe under the guidance of Bhishma. Duryodhana urged all the Kaurava generals to make sure they are around Grandsire Bhīṣhma and give him full support while they defend their own respective positions in the military phalanx.
Then Bhīṣhma, roared like a lion, and blew his conch shell very loudly, giving joy to Duryodhan.
Thereafter, conches, kettledrums, bugles, trumpets, and horns suddenly blared forth, and their combined sound was overwhelming.
Then, from amidst the Pandava army, seated in a glorious chariot drawn by white horses, Madhav and Arjun and other Pandavas blew their Divine conch shells. It shattered the hearts of Kauravas.
Then Arjun requests Krishna to take him in the middle of the battlefield, in midst of both the armies as he wants to see the Kaurava army.
Arjun was baffled on seeing all his teachers, relatives. He asks what's the use of the kingdom if we will lose the people whom we love. Arjun starts too feel that he is giong to commit a great sin and puts down his weapons.
