Hello everybody!
Be free, hope for nothing from anyone. I am sure if you look back upon your lives, you will find that you are always vainly trying to get help from others, which never came. All the help that has come was from within yourselves. --- Swami Vivekananda.
Only few people are lucky enough to be guided by someone at all the times. But greatness has been achieved by those, who always have found a guiding factor within themselves. We have always been trying to make a better person out of ourselves. And that constant drive makes us do better and better. But some things keep disturbing us. Something which we don’t completely understand but something which is due to our own.
Try reading the book ‘How to Stand up for Yourself’ by Dr. Paul Hauck. It talks about how to get our own way without taking advantage of others. Dr.Paul explains us the most of intricate things in such a simple way by giving live examples. May it be the stress in boss-employee relationship, parent-child relationship, husband-wife or any other. It throws light on the ways of dealing day to day situations and building a positive attitude.
Dr. Paul says “If you don’t have the ability or willingness to stand up for your own beliefs, your life slips away into the control of others”. Dr. Paul has a lot more to talk about marriage, creativity, rights, making a difference, passive personality, behaviour, attitude, overcoming fear, excuses and rationalizations, taking risks. And he explains each of these with examples of live situations. Paul says “People taking control of their own lives, something which if not done leads to endless conflict, neurosis, and unhappiness”.
Some of my favourite lines:
“One of the greatest drawbacks of being a nice guy is that you tend to agree too readily with the opinions of others. If you truly want to be a creative person, you will follow your own inclinations....This means that you will often say to the world,'You are wrong and I am right'. Conceited as that may sound,it's what talented persons just have to do if they want their talent to flourish”
“If you have a mind of your own, you will impress others with your self confidence.”
“ Learn not to make mountains out of molehills.”
"Early attempts at assertion are often crude and unfair. You'll be awkward for many attempts. Be not dismayed. The skills yo wll learn are complex. . .Practice is the solution."
Just take a look at this fantastic book. It may bring out a change in you and may give you some hints in overcoming some problems.
“Throw your chest out, square your shoulders, stick out your chin and smile. You are about to let the world know what is important to you.
